Make/Shift Dance Project

19th July 2016
Class 3 worked with choreographers Tim Rubidge and Clare Pencak, and people connected to the Crossings Project in Newcastle, which supports asylum seekers in the north-east, through culture. Over 4 sessions, and creative writing in the classroom with their teacher, they listened to stories directly from asylum seekers, worked with writing, spoken word and contemporary movement practice to develop a short piece that contributes to the research Tim and Clare are doing in Make/Shift.  It was really amazing to see the children's empathy and sensitivity growing through the project.  The creative writing done in class was wonderful, and their open-mindedness and interest in experimenting with a variety of creative strategies through the whole project shows in the video shot of the performance by Christo Wallers.
